Wear behavior of self-propagating high-temperature synthesized Cu-TiO2 nanocomposites

In this paper, the copper-based nanocomposites with TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) process. The effect of different amounts excess copper, in comparison stoichiometric ratio (CuO:Ti ratios 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1), on phase formation achieved samples was studied. A thermodynamical study showed that increasing copper powder reduces adiabatic temperature, which helps formation. maximum Brinell hardness (89) obtained for sample CuO:Ti 1:1. Finally, wear behavior evaluated pin disk test, variation friction coefficient lost weight measured. decreased phases distribution titanium oxide particles during SHS process presence CuO:Ti. Therefore, improved. lowest depth trace measured 0.68 where CuO: Ti
